Material Science Practice Intern
SMT Labs currently has an Intern position available. This is an excellent opportunity to apply your knowledge to real world problems. Learn from two experts with over 40 years of combined mechanical design, accident reconstruction, failure analysis and analytical chemistry experience.
The Material Science Practice Intern will assist with the identification, structuring, and execution of various projects. Primary tasks for the Material Science Intern will include support for SMT Labs organic and inorganic analyses. Organic analysis includes FTIR, GCMS, HPLC, DSC, TGA, density and hardness measurements. Inorganic analysis will include SEM, microstructure determination, and microhardness measurements. The intern will learn how to prepare samples for cross-sectioning, as well as mount preparation including mount polishing and etching. Projects will include routine sample identification and characterization, deformulation, failure analysis and litigation matters. Assistance with inspections, laboratory infrastructure and daily lab administration will also be needed.
Requirements are a high school diploma with a college degree in progress and an interest in the science or engineering fields.
